Din fericire, tezismul e slujit de un uria\u015f talent \u015fi, astfel, corectat tacit. Breban nu cultiv\u0103 scrisul frumos; \u00eencercarea de totalitate \u2013 utopia tangibil\u0103 asupra c\u0103reia g\u00e2nde\u015fte \u2013 presupune riscul greoiului, prolixitatea, redundan\u0163a.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Orgoliul creator, miz\u00e2nd pe suprema\u0163ia romanului, a \u00eenvins; \u00een contextul exploziei \u015faizeciste, N. Breban a urcat impetuos spre statutul de \u201eromancier al genera\u0163iei\u201d. Nichita, \u00een anii de \u00eenceput, paria pe acel june atletic, f\u0103r\u0103 volum \u00eenc\u0103, negr\u0103bit, afi\u015f\u00e2nd, imperativ, o siguran\u0163\u0103 nutrit\u0103 de un imens orgoliu. Care, iat\u0103, peste ani, a rodit. Breban a visat s\u0103 ajung\u0103 romancier \u015fi aceast\u0103 fascina\u0163ie, \u201etulbure \u015fi precoce\u201d, l-a \u00eenso\u0163it mereu.<br \/>\nAjuns la o \u201eb\u0103tr\u00e2ne\u0163e \u00eenalt\u0103\u201d, vital, travers\u00e2nd \u2013 recunoa\u015fte \u2013 decenii dificile, confiscat de o \u201ehalucina\u0163ie tematic\u0103\u201d, \u201eoptzecistul\u201d Nicolae Breban \u015fi-a urm\u0103rit, cu tenacitate ardeleneasc\u0103, \u201enordic\u0103\u201d, proiectul destinal. Doar entuziastul Nichita, \u00eemp\u0103r\u0163ind, cu generozitate, \u201ebinecuv\u00e2nt\u0103ri\u201d, \u00eentrev\u0103zuse (\u201eo nimerise\u201d, cum zicea G. Dimisianu) marele destin de romancier al acelui ins cu alur\u0103 atletic\u0103, sigur pe el, autoritar, rob al unor lecturi esen\u0163iale, av\u00e2nd ca \u201e\u00eenv\u0103\u0163\u0103tori\u201d pe Nietzsche, Dostoievski, Thomas Mann \u015f.a. Totu\u015fi, cu o m\u0103rturisit\u0103 \u201espaim\u0103 de viitor\u201d (v. Confesiuni violente, 1994).<br \/>\nSf\u0103tos, locvace, oferind, din bel\u015fug, \u201el\u0103muriri\u201d, \u00eencerc\u00e2nd un bilan\u0163 (subiectiv, fire\u015fte) al \u201e\u00een\u0163elegerii critice\u201d de care s-a bucurat opera sa, Nicolae Breban polariza, \u00eens\u0103, recep\u0163ia, aceasta fluctu\u00e2nd, crede prozatorul, \u00eentre cecitate \u015fi calomnie, alunec\u00e2nd chiar \u00een denun\u0163 politic (v. R\u0103spuns criticilor mei). Evident, lucrurile nu stau chiar a\u015fa, c\u0103r\u0163ile brebaniene au avut succes, iar autorul n-a fost nicidecum \u201eignorat\u201d. E drept, \u015fi din alte pricini. Dac\u0103 orice t\u00e2n\u0103r talentat, orgolios, ambi\u0163ios este, necesarmente, un paranoid (recuno\u015ftea \u00eensu\u015fi Breban), scriitorul a avut r\u0103bdare cu sine. Dup\u0103 ani de a\u015fteptare a p\u0103r\u0103sit, f\u0103r\u0103 regrete, acel caiet albastru \u015fi scrisul \u201eplat, fals, \u015fcol\u0103resc\u201d, a vrut \u201es\u0103 sparg\u0103 \u00eenchisoarea\u201d (cum s-a exprimat, \u00een 1968, la o \u00eentrevedere cu Nicolae Ceau\u015fescu), a urcat rapid \u00een ierarhia literar\u0103 (redactor-\u015fef la Rom\u00e2nia literar\u0103) \u015fi politic\u0103 (membru supleant al CC al PCR, timp de doi ani). \u015ei a urmat gestul \u201enecugetat\u201d al demisiei, trimis\u0103 prin po\u015ft\u0103, de la Paris, sfid\u00e2nd dictatura ceau\u015fist\u0103, atunci incipient\u0103, oricum edulcorat\u0103 fa\u0163\u0103 de anii stalini\u015fti, cu ecouri \u00een presa momentului (Le Monde, La quinzaine litt\u00e9raire), denun\u0163\u00e2nd \u201eminirevolu\u0163ia cultural\u0103\u201d. Pozi\u0163ia sa direct\u0103, frontal\u0103 contra Tezelor din iulie (1971) l-a \u201edespov\u0103rat\u201d de func\u0163ii \u015fi privilegii, condamn\u00e2ndu-l, \u00eens\u0103, la ani de marginalitate. Asum\u00e2ndu-\u015fi riscurile carierei \u015fi eliber\u00e2ndu-se moral, \u00een contextul unei schizofrenii sociale \u00een galop.
