This series will continue in 2016.\u00a0Nonetheless, as the title suggests, this project is conceived to highlight those fields of the Romanian avant-garde that are less or not known \u2013 film, photography, performance -, considering that most scholars have explored until now mainly the avant-garde literature and visual arts.\u00a0This multifaceted project, based on the original topic of Igor Mocanu\u2019s research, will take place\u00a0at RCINY on April 3, 2015, at 7 pm, consists of three events, complementary to each other: screening of archive films \u201cexcavated\u201d by Igor Mocanu in National Film Archive of Romania and from the National Dance Center Bucharest, the opening of a documentary photography show curated by Igor Mocanu, and his conference.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking about the upcoming exhibition, Igor Mocanu confesses:\u00a0\u201cMost avant-garde authors seem to have theorized and created beyond the borders of art genres. The same artists that where labeled until recently exclusively as poets or painters turned out to be, at the same time, ardent theorists of the film culture (Ion C\u0103lug\u0103ru \u2013 author of the first Chaplin biography, Sa\u015fa Pan\u0103, Marcel Iancu, Filip Corsa, Barbu Florian) or even active participants in the cinema industry (Benjamin Fondane, Eli Lotar), authors of photomontages, collages or artistic photography (Titina C\u0103pit\u0103nescu, Jean David, Filip Brunea-Fox), music theorists (Sa\u015fa Pan\u0103) or real modern music composers (Urmuz), performers (Gherasim Luca) and choreographers (Lizica Codreanu), modern dance theorists (Alexandru Assan) and promoters of exotic art (Filip Brunea-Fox, Corneliu Mih\u0103ilescu). This exhibition aims therefore to emphasize this alternative, parallel history of the avant-garde in Romania.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among artists on display (alphabetically ordered): Aurel Baugh, Geo Bogza, Theodore Brauner, Filip Brunea-Fox, Titina C\u0103pit\u0103nescu, Irina Codreanu, Lizica Codreanu, Filip Corsa, Jean David, Barbu Florian, Benjamin Fondane, Marcel Iancu, Gherasim Luca, M.H. Maxy, Gellu Naum, Sa\u015fa Pan\u0103, Jules Perahim, Mili\u0163a Petra\u015fcu, Claude Sernet, Tristan Tzara, Urmuz.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Igor Mocanu<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0(b. 1984, Cantemir, Republic of Moldova) is a PhD candidate at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, Department of History and Theory of Arts, with the thesis\u00a0Political Avant-garde. The other side of the Romanian Avant-garde in social, political and economic documents\u00a0(coordinated by Professor Ruxandra Demetrescu), in which he develops his master\u2019s degree dissertation on a similar topic. He publishes essays and articles in various journals and magazines from Romania and abroad. He curated several exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, among them the project\u00a0Avant-garde revisited. European Avant-garde in the National Film Archive of Romania\u00a0(ANFR, Romanian Cinematheque, Eforie Hall \/ \u201cJean Georgescu\u201d, 2012-2014). He supervised the anthology\u00a01984. The last generation of the Romanian Communism\u00a0(UNIBUC, 2008), he participated in the literary-visual project\u00a0Rubik (Polirom, 2008), and published several contributions in the volumes\u00a0CriticAtac. Se \u015ftie c\u0103 cercetarea avangardei istorice a secolului XX \u00een Rom\u00e2nia a fost aproape inexistent\u0103 \u00een perioada regimului comunist, din cauza cenzurii ideologice, iar scrierile consistente pe acest subiect, care au \u00eenceput s\u0103 apar\u0103 dup\u0103 1989, au favorizat mai ales literatura \u015fi artele vizuale.\u00a0Op\u0163iunea ICR New York de a celebra avangarda rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 are la baz\u0103 adev\u0103rul c\u0103 prin curentele avangardei \u2013 de la expresionism \u015fi constructivism la Dada \u015fi suprarealism \u2013 arta rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 din anii 1920 \u015fi 1930, prin nume ca Tristan Tzara, Marcel Iancu, Victor Brauner sau Gellu Naum, a \u00eenregistrat momentul de maxim sincronism cu avangarda european\u0103. Totodat\u0103, evenimentul se \u00eenscrie \u00een actuala \u201cexplozie\u201d de celebrare a centenarului avangardelor care au marcat primele decenii ale secolului XX, incluz\u00e2nd participarea lui Br\u00e2ncu\u015fi la marea expozi\u0163ie interna\u0163ional\u0103 Armory Show din SUA, \u00een 1913, sau na\u015fterea mi\u015fc\u0103rii Dada la Cabaretul Voltaire din Z\u00fcrich, \u00een 1916.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Proiectul\u00a0\u201eCealalt\u0103 fa\u0163\u0103 a avangardei din Rom\u00e2nia: film, fotografie, performance\u201d, care va avea loc\u00a0vineri, 3 aprilie 2015, ora 19.00, cuprinde trei secven\u0163e, care se completeaz\u0103 reciproc, constituind un tot unitar: proiec\u0163ii de filme de arhiv\u0103; vernisajul expozi\u0163iei de imagini-document; conferin\u0163\u0103.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vorbind despre propria-i cercetare privind\u00a0Cealalt\u0103 fa\u0163\u0103 a avangardei\u2026, Igor Mocanu afirm\u0103: \u201cRezultatul a constituit un corpus surprinz\u0103tor de documente vizuale \u015fi textuale care nu fac \u00eendeob\u015fte obiectul istoriei \u015fi teoriei avangardei, de\u015fi aportul adus de aceasta culturii vizuale rom\u00e2ne este inestimabil. Am constatat cu aceast\u0103 ocazie o latur\u0103 pu\u0163in sau deloc cunoscut\u0103 a avangardelor istorice din Rom\u00e2nia, discursul asupra c\u0103rora fiind, dup\u0103 cum se cunoa\u015fte, acaparat de metodologia istoriei preponderent literare. \u00cens\u0103 majoritatea autorilor avangardi\u015fti se pare c\u0103 au teoretizat \u015fi creat \u00een afara grani\u0163elor de gen artistic. Aceia\u015fi arti\u015fti pe care p\u00e2n\u0103 mai ieri \u00eei cuno\u015fteam ca fiind numai poe\u0163i sau numai pictori s-au dovedit a fi, \u00een acela\u015fi timp, teoreticieni redutabili ai culturii filmului (Ion C\u0103lug\u0103ru \u2013 autor al primei monografii despre Chaplin, Sa\u015fa Pan\u0103, Marcel Iancu, Filip Corsa, Barbu Florian) sau chiar participan\u0163i activi \u00een industria cinematografic\u0103 (Benjamin Fondane, Eli Lotar), autori de fotomontaje, colaje sau fotografie de art\u0103 (Titina C\u0103pit\u0103nescu, Jean David, Filip Brunea-Fox), teoreticieni muzicali (Sa\u015fa Pan\u0103) sau de-a dreptul compozitori de muzic\u0103 modern\u0103 (Urmuz), performeri (Gherasim Luca) \u015fi coregrafi (Lizica Codreanu), teoreticieni ai dansului modern (Alexandru Assan) \u015fi promotori ai artei exotice (Filip Brunea-Fox, Corneliu Mih\u0103ilescu).\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Conferin\u0163a domnului Igor Mocanu \u00ee\u015fi propune, a\u015fadar, s\u0103 prezinte, \u00een sintez\u0103, o istorie alternativ\u0103, dac\u0103 nu chiar paralel\u0103, a avangardei din Rom\u00e2nia. Totodat\u0103, expozi\u0163ia de fotografii-document, al c\u0103rei curator este, \u015fi proiec\u0163iile de filme \u201cexcavate\u201d de acesta la Arhiva Na\u0163ional\u0103 de Film a Rom\u00e2niei (ANFR) \u2013 evenimente ce vor \u00eenso\u0163i conferin\u0163a \u2013 vor reprezenta o inedit\u0103 \u201cpanoramare\u201d vizual\u0103 a acestei istorii.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Igor Mocanu<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0(n. 1984, Cantemir, Republica Moldova) este doctorand la Universitatea Na\u0163ional\u0103 de Arte din Bucure\u015fti, \u00een cadrul Facult\u0103\u0163ii de Istoria \u015fi Teoria Artei, cu teza \u201eAvangarda politic\u0103.
