Stewart<\/strong> introduces herself: <em>\u201eMy pioneer ancestors emigrated from England and Italy in the 1800\u2019s. The generations grow with 1 daughter, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren! <\/em><em>\u00a0My husband and I are retired from careers in Mental Health care. A founding members of Hawke\u2019s Bay Live Poets\u2019 Society (president for 23 years), I believe in community sharing with community through poetry. Poetry is each person\u2019s <\/em><em>observation and truth \u2013 in all its vibrancy, drama, humour. Anything can be said and shared in a safe way, through poetry. The children\u2019s poem <\/em><em>\u00ab<\/em><em>Kiwi and Fern Fairy<\/em><em>\u00bb<\/em><em> is one of 14 written to support the dream <\/em><em>of my English-born friend Carol Paton-White, to create native Flower Fairy paintings for her adopted country. She died before Flower Fairies and Birds of Aotearoa New Zealand (paintings, poems and heritage notes) was published. <\/em><em>I am proud that <\/em><em>\u00ab<\/em><em>The Phoenix<\/em><em>\u00bb<\/em><em> is displayed permanently on a Napier city wall. <\/em><em>The poem <\/em><em>\u00ab<\/em><em>Marae<\/em><em>\u00bb<\/em><em> reflects the blessing of my having whanau (family) links to Maori, the indigenous culture of New Zealand. probes with a long beak<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>to sniffle worms for underground and play worm hide-and-seek.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It cannot fly, but walks and runs on short and sturdy legs<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>and calls out, \u201cKee Wee!\u201d all the night and lays enormous eggs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In still and shady secret nooks, Fern Fairy lives and play.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She loves the dampish forest and its quiet and ferny ways.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Silver Ferns tower over her like parasols of
