Dear Mr. Secretary:<\/p>\n

We write you as loyal Americans who want to see America great again. At the same time and as citizens of Romanian origin we also want to see our native country great and an ever stronger ally of the United States. Romania is currently a staunch American friend and one of the main pivots of U.S. policy in Eastern Europe. In recent years, for example, Romanian troops fought and sacrificed together with the American troops in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

\n

One of the most delicate Romanian issues that have been ignored by the previous U.S. administrations is Bessarabia, a former Romanian province that was separated from Romania by the secret provisions of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of August 1939. This part of Romania became a Soviet Republic and then, after the collapse of the Soviet Union in August 1991, the independent\u00a0 Republic of Moldova. Most of the inhabitants of this area are ethnic Romanians and their desire to reunite with Romania is ever growing.<\/p>\n

\n

Mr. Secretary, at the beginning of October, George Simion, a Romanian citizen and the General Secretary of the Actiunea 2012, a Romanian organization that advocates the reunification of Moldova with Romania, while travelling through Moldova was detained by the Moldovan authorities, was abused and maltreated, and was banned for five years to reenter Moldova.<\/p>\n

\n

On behalf of the American community of Romanian origin we protest strongly against such acts and ask the Department of State to take a stand in defense of the Romanian nation.<\/p>\n

In our deep conviction, the sooner Washington understands that reunification of the Romanian nation is imminent, and the sooner the State Department acts correspondingly, the better for America\u2019s national security interests.<\/p>\n

Cu toate acestea, una din cele mai delicate probleme rom\u00e2ne\u015fti, anume Basarabia, a fost \u00eens\u0103 ignorat\u0103 de administra\u0163iile americane anterioare. Fosta provincie rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 a fost ocupat\u0103 de URSS \u00een urma protocoalelor secrete ale pactului Ribbenrop-Molotov din august 1939. Cea mai mare parte a provinciei a fost transformat\u0103 \u00eentr-o republic\u0103 sovietic\u0103 care dup\u0103 dizolvarea URSS-ului \u00een 1991 a devenit Republica Moldova. Majoritatea locuitorilor acestei republici sunt etnici rom\u00e2ni \u015fi dorin\u0163a lor de a se reuni cu Rom\u00e2nia este \u00een continu\u0103 cre\u015ftere…<\/p>\n

Domnule Secretar, la \u00eenceputul lunii octombrie, George Simion, cet\u0103\u0163ean roman \u015fi secretar general al organiza\u0163iei \u201eAc\u0163iunea 2012\u201d care militeaz\u0103 pentru reunificarea Republicii Moldova cu Rom\u00e2nia, a fost re\u0163inut, abuzat \u015fi maltratat fizic de autorit\u0103\u0163ile de la Chi\u015fin\u0103u. \u00cen plus, i s-a interzis s\u0103 reintre \u00een Republica Moldova pe o perioad\u0103 de cinci ani…<\/p>\n

\u00cen\u00a0numele comunit\u0103\u0163ii de origine rom\u00e2n\u0103 din Statele Unite protest\u0103m categoric fa\u0163\u0103 de un asemenea act \u015fi cerem Departamentului de Stat s\u0103 ia atitudine \u00een ap\u0103rarea na\u0163iunii rom\u00e2ne.<\/p>\n

Ne exprim\u0103m totodat\u0103 convingerea ferm\u0103 c\u0103 reunificarea Rom\u00e2niei este iminent\u0103! Cu c\u00e2t Washingtonul \u00een\u0163elege mai repede acest lucru \u015fi Departamentul de Stat ac\u0163ioneaz\u0103 \u00een mod corespunz\u0103tor, cu at\u00e2t mai bine pentru interesele na\u0163ionale ale Statelor Unite.<\/p>\n
