Selecting an Obstetrician-Gynecologist is an important decision for all women. There are many considerations when selecting an OB-GYN, but one of the more important issues is how accessible is the doctor and her/his office to you.

Dr. Narinder Brar, D.O, attened medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. This was followed by a residency in obstretics and gynecology at Albany Medical College in New York, where she ultimately served as chief resident.

Dr. Brar has practiced in the West Valley ( Arizona) since 2006. She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstretics & Gynecology.  Arizona Maternity & Women’s Clinic is located at: 14961 W. Bell Rd. Suite 175, Surprise, AZ 85374 and it can be reached at 623 547 7205 Monday through Friday from 8 to 4 pm to schedule appointments. We asked Dr. Brar a few questions to which she was very pleased to respond.

Reporter: – Why did you decide to become an OB GYN?

Dr. Brar: – Born in a small town in India, very early in my life I had decided to become a doctor. During my medical school in India I felt very sympathetic to women patients and felt I had a special connection with them. This was reinforced when I rotated through obstetrics. I was so passionate about this field that I repeated my medical school here in United States so I would have chance to get into an excellent OB/GYN residency program.

Reporter: – When and where did you receive training?

Dr. Brar: – Studies at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, where I received my DO degree and then four years of residency at Albany Medical College New York, enabled me to get the knowledge and experience for this field.

Reporter: – Are you board-certified?

Dr. Brar: – Certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology is one of my proud possessions.

Reporter: – How man babies have you delivered since you have become a doctor?

Dr. Brar: – On the average there are 20 to 30 deliveries per month in my practice and I delivered a lot of babies since my residency.

Reporter: – Do you have children of your own?

Dr. Brar: -We are proud parents of an 11 year old boy and 6 year old daughter.

Reporter: – What types of tests are normally performed on a pregnant woman? Is it based on age, background, health history?

Dr. Brar: – Standard tests on a pregnant woman are an Ob panel, blood tests for anemia, testing for venereal diseases, diabetes and testing for infections of the vaginal tract. We also try to determine if there are any malformations of the baby. In office ultrasound is available to see how the baby is growing.

Reporter: – Does a patient have a choice of hospitals prior to delivery?

Dr. Brar: – Although I have privileges at other hospitals I exclusively deliver at Banner Del E Webb Hospital.

Reporter: – How long have you been in Arizona? What made you choose the City of Surprise?

Dr. Brar: – I have been in Arizona for six years and we came here because of the beautiful weather.

Reporter: – What are your philosophies on hormone therapy, for pre-menopause and menopausal patients?

Dr. Brar: – Hormone therapy is a very complex subject and solutions have to be individualized.

Reporter: – What are the signs or symptoms of Ovarian Cancer? If left untreated what is the survival rate?

Dr. Brar: -Ovarian cancer unfortunately has very vague symptoms like abdominal pain, feeling fullness, bloating, and nausea. Many patients have no symptoms, hence it is important to follow with your doctor annually for GYN examinations.

Reporter: – As an OB/GYN what gratification do you receive when a child is born?

Dr. Brar: -It is so gratifying to bring new life in the world and I enjoy the happiness of the family and feel professionally satisfied to see a healthy baby doing well.

Reporter: – You had mentioned that you had several Romanian patients that truly appreciated your services and performance prior to delivery and after, what do you believe makes you stand out from other OB/GYNS?

Dr. Brar:  -The Romanian community has provided me the opportunity to serve them with their Obstetrics and Gynecology needs.  I feel a special bond with them as they reflect my own personal and family beliefs.
